Innsbruck 2000

I2K - The Innsbruck 2000 New Year Event, Part V

by Mike Gendreyzig, 2003

Jump-off @ Bergisel

View from ski-jump,
Mt. Berg Isel

While three of us went again to Axamer Lizum for tobogganing, eating tasty Tyrolean specialties and chatting about this and that, the rest of the group (than still eight as four others already left before the new year eve) went to Innsbruck down town for sightseeing.

Innsbruck snowy mountains

Innsbruck has an old town with wonderful small houses of merchant of former days, still in best conditions. The most popular building is the 'Golden Roof' (Goldenes Dachl) with 2,738 gilt copper shingles The big royal residence of the former duke 'Sigmund the coin rich' (Sigmund dem Münzreichen) and emperor Maximilian I., being built after 1460 and reconstructed by Maria Theresia 1754-73, is just some meters away. There are even more historic and really interesting cultural and religious spots of the past.
But also the young history has created mentionable buildings, like the sports places of the Olympic winter games of 1964 and 1976. Just to the north of Innsbruck the ski jump is located on Bergisel, reachable by street tram. The big event every year is the ski jumping before January, 6th, just some days after we've climbed the big tower on endless steps ...
It was a sunny day, the last day in this nice and tourist friendly town in the heart of Tirol. We all enjoyed the great trip and the fun together. And the four day journey ended with a great Mexican dinner at Chilli's: Fajitas, Burgers and hot potatoes - good choice M.

Thanks

Friends, this was a marvellous trip. Lots of sports activity, delicious eating out, nice chatting and at most fun, fun, fun! Wanna try another revival at the end of this year?
Hey driver's - good job. It's really comfortable in contrast to railway when carrying a big backpack and additional a heavy 8kg toboggan.
Finally big thanx and arigatou gozaimashita to J-Queen K. for providing the flashy Sony digi cam, which was highly necessary (both the cam and K.:) for this illustrated report.

Hey, it's already morning - where is gone my last night for sleep? Ok I'll stop here and we're looking forward to the upcoming I2K+. Just 365 days, 364, 363, ...
MIKE.
